November 2013.

***URGENT***

CITY COUNCIL MEETING TONIGHT – PLEASE ATTEND

7:00 P.M.

DOCK TAX IS ON THE AGENDA

CITY COUNCIL CHAMBERS (AT THE TAJ MAHAL)

Now I will complain. This is the same game the city played with us last year while adopting the Dock Tax. They scheduled the meeting on Tuesday before Thanksgiving when families are traveling.

We were told earlier this month at the city study session that a revised Dock Tax ordinance would be on the agenda in December. True to form this city staff (and likely the Mayor) set the matter for tonight. No notice, no courtesy phone call, nothing.

They wonder why we continue to organize, raise money, and develop plans in preparation for next November’s city council election.

Take a moment and read the staff report for tonight’s meeting. Read it here.

Once again, the staff report shows how the Dock Tax, marina tax, mooring tax, and Harbor business taxes are simply money grabs by a bloated big government.

Join us tonight – it is important.

THEY THREW US A BONE WITH NO MEAT ON IT!

Last Tuesday I sat in the first row of Newport’s new city hall chambers waiting for a special “look-back” study session after a year of the Dock Tax.

Wrapped in the grandeur of our $140 million civic center complex I reflected upon President Reagan’s August 12, 1986 speech where he said, “The nine most terrifying words in the English language are, ‘I’m from the government and I’m here to help.'”

His words were as accurate last week watching the Newport Beach city council “help” as they were in 1986.
